Mike, Gayla, Grant, Gavin – the Louisiana Loners. One level 5 and three ‘never ever’. What polite children – give an insturction and the reply: ‘yes sir’. Our country needs more of this – our country will deminish without this. Gliding wedges and wedge turns, some falls, some successes, some ‘speed issues’, some laughs, some serious discussions (about hitting trees and the like). Skied from the top of chair 7 to the bottom by afternoon’s end – well done … no one in Mississippi could have performed so well.

Ana, if all skiers from Mexioc could ski as well, what would be the point of having ski instructors at Breckenridge. No ski for 10 years, took all of one turn to ‘feel the fun’. Hip position is the power, open to the mountian, drop to the inside of the turn, stay ‘grounded’ with both skis, don’t rush the initiation, feel pressure on both feet. You have not been a Level 1 in a long time!

Late start, sunny, warm with high winds. Doug skiing with Madhu and Veena, Kuldip and I working on matching, leg rotation, bigger radius turns, more speed and skidding with both skis. Lunch at Spencer’s (thank you Kuldip, most kind of you) and the day was done as the logistics of daughter, car, Keystone, returning equipment all become convoluted. Was a great two days with more progress I see than you probably see in yourselves.

Kuldip, Veena, Ash and Madhu – the Houston Husslers. An interesting morning – and that was just getting in and out of the rental shop – toughest part of the day. Magic carpet, then poma, then Quicksilver Super Chair – gliding wedge and wedge turns. Pleasant lunch and conversation at Spencer’s – afternoon with more wedge turns and beginning technique of matching and skidding skis. Ride up/ride down on the Beaver Run chair at days end – instructor not paying attention and loaded wrong lift – the scenery was gran!

Now this was a group of COLD Babes! Holy Smokes, what is going on with the temperature around here – but not to despair, the wind was only 35 knots. That being said ’twas a great day!
Powder technique, overcoming fear, being patience, don’t panic, commit to the turn … do whatever you like …. just don’t lift one ski off the snow. Proud of everone today, coming out of the comfort zone and making changes.

Linda, Merideth, Caroline, Cathrine – The Afternoon Ladies. ‘How to Go from Level 5 to Level 6 in Two Hours’. You (plural) did it! I know the first hour seemed like ‘This is Nuts’ …. but the second hour was a rush, yeah? Now you start to understand what the ‘hook’ in skiing is all about. The door now open – yours to pass through.

Roberto & Marci – early morning lesson, some powder (with just a little bit of crust on top), core alignment, one leg drills, side slips, speed control (sounds like something on a steering wheel), stance width, quick turns, be PATIENT with the turns to let the skis engage early and high which makes all the pieces ‘later and lower’ work to shape the finish. Great morning, thank you.
