Snowy but not cold, a bump focus day: Pam, Donna, Nancy. What ankle and knee flexion allows for leg rotation, crouching tiger, a more complete turn to avoid skidding down the back side and building speed, a lot of follow the leader, staying supple over the bumps and into the troughs to maintain balance. One on one focus … a good day indeed!DSC02759

Last official day for level 8 Babes, think we made a good go of it … Laurel, Rebecca, Mitzi, Jenny, Olive, Paula, Lisa, Suzanne. Open bowl skiing in the morning, bumps in the afternoon … crouching tiger, early edges and tighter turns, completing the turns, leg rotation with straight leg and flexed leg, not squaring up on steeper terrain … exercises: double pole plant, fore/aft shuffle with feet (Laurel had a different name for this one, hope everyone on the chair enjoyed it), windshield wiper knees. Thank you ladies for a great 8 weeks, what changes have been accomplished, many laughs … we are not done!DSC02741DSC02745DSC02746DSC02746DSC02747DSC02751DSC02755DSC02756DSC02757

Powder day (kinda), George’s Thumb the best of the day … Crazy 8s: Joe, Laurel, Olive, Pat, Mark, Paula, Peter, Rebecca, Lisa. Maintaining pressure on both skis throughout the turn, deliberate pole plant to stabilize the upper body, stay countered, commit to the new turn with the new inside ski, keep the speed low. Was I the only one cold by 3:00pm … somebody turned off the heat by mid afternoon. Most fun day!DSC02736DSC02730

Powder and tree day! Meow, Polly, Paul, Nancy – level 7 technique and explore day. Skiing kind of over the top good, over 12 inches in some places. Tree technique: go slow, stay balanced, keep pressure on both feet ALL THE TIME, look ahead, some turns are pivots, let the snow platform under the skis help turn, less edge, more leg steering, and A POLE PLANT. We don’t get many of these days, good job to all!DSC02723DSC02723

A cold snowy day, we needed this. Judy, Joelle, Pam, Becky, Donna, Nancy, Susie, Phyllis – mixed level 7s. Morning focus, pressuring the inside edge of the new outside ski. Afternoon focus: controlling speed, shape and line in and out of the bumps. The morning run under the lift line was a little intense at the top (bumps too big, too narrow), better at the bottom. Afternoon new snow and Volunteer was the highlight of the day … seeing some good ski performance on a black run and the bumps were doable. DSC02719

Crazy 8 Babes (Olive, Paula, Laurel, Chong, Jenny, Rebecca, Lisa, Suzanne, Lisa). Horseshoe bowl in the morning (Brills, Lulu, Rustler) … bumps in the afternoon (Little Johnny, Rounders, Peerless, Spitfire, Crescendo). Steeps: lead with the hip, steer with the legs, fine tune with the ankles … bumps: set your speed and turn shape, pick a line that gives this desired speed and shape. Thank you Jenny for chocolate (could be the best ever), thank you Laurel for oatmeal cookies (could be the best ever)!DSC02711DSC02712

Gail, level 4. Seven inches of cut up snow, fairly light, a challenge for sure to move both skis together. More ankle flexion, stand taller, keep core of base of support, begin turn with new inside ski, control speed by completing each turn, rhythm. Good changes Gail, enjoy the blue runs on Peak 9!DSC02707
