Brenda, Linda, Nick, Meow, Catharine, Laura, Nancy – early edge engagement, early pressure on both skis, inside 1/2 of body leads the turn, vertical alignment, both skis working together, ‘long leg/short leg’ balance…lots of runs on Rustler (skiing well) and a couple off of chair 6. No picture today.

Donna, Joelle, Kay, Pam – warmer than yesterday, windy, ‘workable’ – 7s. Good progress today, carving on groomed terrain, some pole work, both skis working together, equal ankle angles, early edge engagement of new inside ski, hip alignment (inside half of body leads) all the way through the turn finish (avoid squaring up and killing both the old and new turn). Thank you for chocolates ladies!P1010406

Mitz, Rebecca, Diane, Betty, P1010402Chris, Jenny, Paola – this was a cold day, temp about 10 with 20 kt. of wind, about two runs and inside … that being said, the skiing delightful. Skiing working together (doing same thing at same time), early edge engagement, hips to the outside of the turn allowing the inside half of the body to lead and aligning the hips over the feet (I appreciate this is not an easy concept, be patient, as this movement pattern develops so will a more carved turn and the ability to complete each turn).

Nic, Cayman Islands (and many other places), solid 7, sunny, no wind, good snow. Early edge engagement, tipping of inside ski to engage new inside ski, pressuring the new edges to create carve, alignment, pole plants, side slips, flexion in legs for pressure management and to facilitate leg rotation. Good day Nic!P1010390 P1010393 P1010395

Donna and Kay, strong 7s, drill day and practice on bumps, balance and pressure, pivots, side slips, slow bumps, controlling line and speed, early edge engagement, keeping both skis on snow, anticipate the acceleration as the bump drops away and compensate … chocolate/coconut for lunch (except for Kay who thinks coconut is right there with English peas). No picture today, level 8+: Chris, Laural, Rebecca, Mitz, Jenny. Need snow, windy gray day but warm. Pressure and balance … balance in the transition, pressure through the shaping, more leg flex/extend – open up the range of motion, cross under turns for early edge engagement letting the legs get away from the body.

Meow, Nick, Brenda, Linda – 2 inches new snow, cold day in the afternoon, mountain starting to crowd up, skiing good with grippy snow. Poles, hips, ‘position of strength’, alignment, early edge engagement, more carving in the early phase of turn, soften the legs at manage forces at the finish, skis away from the body, dynamic balance, pole drills, 20 turns, shuffle turns, lifting the downhill ski in traverse, tactics in bumps, blocking pole plant. I bring chocolate next week!P1010378
