Sean,Lima – Mahwah, NJ. Some serious vertical today (maybe 25,000 or so). More pressure on inside ski, don’t rush the turn – let it develop higher up, NO LIFTING, pivot turns, side slips, arm/hand discipline, uphill ski traverses, engage new edges early and maintain the edge pressure … Whales, Debs, Y Chutes, Rustler, Dukes, Crescendo, hike the ridge and Snow White. You guys wore me out, was a great day!

January 14, 2017

Taylor – Denver. Bumps and trees … more pressure on inside ski, keep both skis ‘grounded’, hip/knee/foot alignment, pole balance in bumps, pivot slips, side slips, traverse on uphill ski, upper/lower body separation, leg rotation for shorter radius turns. You are level 9 skier Taylor … any slope/any condition/any day. Most fun today!

January 13, 2017 (Afternoon)

Melanie – Richardson TX. Stuck in the level 5 ‘can’t get the skis to match’ dark hole. Well, think we just about solved that problem, well done. Wake up the inside ski, more even weight, less edge angles, allow the skis to skid and perform together, leg rotation to shape the turns, tip the new inside ski early to keep the wedge from forming, bigger radius turns giving yourself more time to stay balanced, shin/boot pressure, arms more forward and hands wider that elbows. It was a good afternoon, you have now opened a new door of skiing!img_0785

January 13, 2017 (Morning)

Darrel, Kristina, Shayna – Highland, MI. Refresher to get back into skiing, tipping the new inside ski, leg rotation, matching earlier, less edge more ‘smear’ to allow shaping, speed control with more completion of turns. Most fun morning – you gals (Darrel bailed) are live wires for sure … Kristina – you owe me $5 because I’m positive I won the bet (Shayna, I’ll pay you your 1/2 when I get the dough).

January 12, 2017

Charlie & Arienne – Tomball, TX. Level 1, straight glides, gliding wedges, wedge change ups, riding Rip’s Ride, direction changes, leg rotation, keeping a flatter ski to be able to steer. Skied down Dyersville at end of day (well, kind of, almost made it all the way down). Much fun meeting and talking about many different topics, enjoy your vacation (keep the speed down, ok guys).

January 8, 2017

Chris, Kay, Catharine – snowy day, not too cold, skiing quite good. Tech session for first 45 minutes, ‘how the hips coordinate with the base of support’, couple of runs playing with balance, good powder runs on White Crown and Ptarmigan, few bumps on Dukes … staying balanced, allowing the rotation to support the ski turning, keeping the speed under control, completing the turns, pressure from initiation to finish. How fun today, good skiing guys!

January 7, 2017

Sophie, Brenda, Linda, Don, Meow, Nick – all about keeping the hips aligned with the feet, maintaining balance,  some pressure on both skis, staying open to the outside of the turn (even when that ‘open’ has the hips facing more up hill). Sunny in the AM, actually started to get warm, then clouds and cold afternoon, lots of chocolate today and a mid-afternoon break … finally have the food program dialed – lunch early, break about 2:15PM. Think a few doors were opened today, I will sleep good tonight. img_0741

January 6, 2017

Elaine, Sophie, Paul, Terry, Violeta, Bob – this was one cold day!!  But … skiing sure was good. Bumps was the focus: shorter radius turns, more equal weight on both skis, tip before rotate, alignment of hips with base of support (feet), turn shapes, pressure throughout the turn, pole plants, retract feet to regain balance (vs. bringing core forward), pick a line with a narrower corridor. Good day group, see you in two weeks.img_0735
