Kelly, Mark, Mason & Aubrey – Oxford Mississippi, level 1 (except Mark, he was off to explore while we were crushing the magic carpet). Wedge glides, wedge direction change, ski around the brushes, Poma, sliding on corresponding edges, riding Rip’s Ride. Enjoy your vacation in Colorado – Kelly, hope you find some air, tequila might help. Cheers.

Donna, Kay, Tyler, Dave – Customer Service (that would be ‘the best of’). Much fun today, sunny, light wind, still some winter snow, stayed up high all day. Early edges, manage the pressure in top 1/2 of turn to ‘be happy’ with bottom 1/2, what’s the deal with the hips, what’s the deal with the arms and hands, and really what’s the deal with the upper body moving around too much. Steeps all day – chocolate for lunch, can’t get any better.
March 9, 2017 (Afternoon)
Gabriela, Leila, Hugo, May – somewhere in Mexico and Austin (and I never asked May where she lived). Magic carpet, gliding wedges, wedge change-ups, straight runs, beginnings of a turn, flatter skis, both skis must turn together, slightly more weight on the outside ski, how to tip an edged ski to lessen the edge grip on the snow, stabilize the upper body (boy, this one was tough), keep the arms up and hands out front (another tough one). Enjoy your vacations and be safe, it was fun afternoon.

Maria, Scott, Kay, Ray, Jim, Don, Paula – last day of club and the wind rages on, all upper mountain closed, that’s ok, plenty of stuff lower to keep us challenged. Everyone working on something a little different, some technique (the push/pull drill certainly gave everyone on the lift something to chat about) but mostly skiing bumps and the bowl. Have a great summer guys, stay healthy.

Sophie, Brenda, Don, Meow, Nick – what a great day, sunny, warm enough (too warm down low), just about the right amount of wind to keep things interesting, upper mountain still winter snow. Played with ‘let the rotary happen at the bottom of the turn’, find the edge and create a circular arc at the top of the turn. Drills in the morning, some steep stuff in the afternoon … those first two turns on the top of ‘skiers left’ Y chute can give cause to pause. And so we see our future, by this time next year those first two turns will seem like a walk in the park. Well done today guys, we definitely stepped it up a notch.
March 3, 2017
Ernie, Bob, Sophie, Paul, Violeta – sunny, kind of warm, good winter snow – we have earned this day by paying our dues on those 5 degree days with 35 knots of wind. Kind of a mixed bag on technique: take out the traverse on the steeps, play with more edge at turn initiation then some rotary at turn finish, pressure the skis (primarily the new out side ski) early in the turn – don’t come into the fall line with excess speed, use that rotary at the finish to complete the turn and control speed. Last day for Friday club – was a good fun year, be safe this summer, see you in about nine months!

Laurel, Rebecca, Mitzi, Chris, Paola, Olive, Lucy, Dianne, Chongie – sunny day, wind still winding up high, some really ‘good for you snow’ everywhere, bumps still soft. You ladies are skiing with authority, just have to do that when off piste will clean your clock if getting lazy. Pretty much all about early edge, feel it, balance on it, manage pressure one it, let the skis do the work, eliminate the early rise and twist, edge to edge/let the CM come inside the new turn/ skis and CM separate/hips counterbalance and begin to rotate facing outside of the arc/as pressure on the outside ski builds it will bend and begin to arc. I liked today, this was all mountain skiing – well done!
