Patty, Angela, Amal, Sophie – south Florida, levels 1 through 4. Worked on matching, how to use the wedge in turns, tipping to match the inside ski, edging to traverse, how to side slide, speed control with turns and sliding. Poma, Rips Ride, Power Line, lunch at Ski Hill One. Don’t give up ladies, just practice the fundamentals mentions above … and have a glass of wine every now and then. Was a memorable day.

March 8, 2018 (Afternoon)

Brenda – Richmond, VA. Stayed on the Colorado lift and Springmier, position of strength, more equal weight, how to stay balanced (hands on knees exercise), wider arms, less edge, tip to a flatter ski, bigger radius, more slide and steering in the turn, using friction for speed control, less defensive short edgy turns and more offensive bigger radius turns with smearing and shaping. heel pressure AND shin pressure (have to have both) which results in ankle and knee flexion. Good progress Brenda, hope your family is impressed tomorrow.IMG_2376

The real last day of Club, sun and wind in the morning, cold/wind/snow in the afternoon. Kay, Catharine, Paula, Scott – exploring arcing, riding the edge, how to get there/how to stay there, how to feel the ‘hook up’. Five times down Rustler, plus Queen, plus Dukes and Crescendo bumps, plus the old B52 line. Good ending to a thin snow season, we made do just fine … thank you for being good and dedicated students.IMG_2352

Meow, Nick, Sohpie, Brenda, Don, Laurel, Catharine – last club Saturday, a good one … stayed high all day, steeps, some bumps on the steeps, probably best snow on Boundary Shoots, probably worst snow on Upper 4 O’clock of the Imperial (that was a luge run). Everyone working a little different stuff: pole plant more downhill, checking to finish the turn, softer arms and hands, not posting on the downhill ski to finish turn/control speed, upper/lower body separation, chicken and egg conundrum (relation between tipping and steering). Great year guys, thank you for many laughs, chocolate, good progress, good students.

Ernie, Elaine, Bob, Sophie, Paul, Terry, Terry – this was a red letter day for sure, just all seemed to start clicking … slowing the initiation, ski grip, hip counter, just let the hands drop (to much robotics), short radius, balance, overcoming fear, rhythm, carry energy from turn to turn, begin the edge change with tipping then rotate to an edge. Brills, Rustler, Contest, Whales, Vertigo, Crescendo, Dukes, Boundary Chute, Old B53 Line. Thanks for the beer guys and a great winter (even if I did miss 1/2 of it) … good skiing today, proud of all!!IMG_2334

Olive, Laurel, Rebecca, Mitzi, Chongee, Paula, Jenny, Chris, Diane – last club for this season, sad … but was a good day, glad! Arts Bowl, CJs, Lulu, Brills, Eagle Nest, Outlaw, Contest, bumps and Dukes and High A. Some steep stuff today with firm snow … early pressure, supportive hips, pole plants, staying centered, pivot slips, keep the radius tight with early edge engagement, keep the speed slow to reduce chatter and cross hill shopping. Glass of wine at days end to tell our war stories – was a great year, thank you. Next year will try not to miss 1/2 the season. Cheers. Happy Summer.
