December 4, 2020 – Afternoon

Matt & Jenny – Austin. First time skiing, start on the carpet, glide around on one then two skis, first wedges kind of shaking, better each time up/down the carpet, wedge change ups, power wedges, now some mild direction change, time for the Poma, first chair ride on Rips, no falling when unloading (impressive), power wedge down the Poma line, pressure on shins, stay balanced (can’t get too far forward), arms and hands in athletic position, direction change with mild weight shift while steering both skis, speed control now from turn shape (and still some of the wedge), skied down Trygve’s Run at day’s end, no falls, nice speed control.

December 4, 2020 – Morning

Shareen – Denver. Start on magic carpet, end skiing Trygve’s run. Get the wedge solid, then some wedge direction change, up to the platter. Matching in the traverse, edge control, flatter skis, how does it feel to side slip, forward side slips, don’t make the wedge turns too tight – put a little straight run down in the middle (makes the initial direction change easier), linking wedge turns with matching, tipping the inside ski to release, steering both skis together.

December 3, 2020

Caitlyn – Montana, Texas, San Francisco (the lady has lots of hang outs). Shaping turns in a C arc, less quick rotation and ski direction change at top of turn, edge change THEN shape and steer (or slide, or skid, or whatever you want, but both edges change first), varying turn shapes, hands on knees drill (more knee/ankle flexion), letting the hips be active to align with the feet, arm position/pole balance drill (getting ready for the pole touch), balance on inside edge of outside ski (not only balance there, manage the pressure there).

December 2, 2020

Kristen – Dallas. Second lesson, minimizing the wedge, matching in traverse, sliding/skidding, less hard edge, steering both feet/skis together, using skid and shape to control speed, not using all of slope to turn, rhythm, how to ‘unlock’ the inside ski with tipping skill. Boyfriend took her up chair 5 at end of first 1/2 day lesson, right off the magic carpet to chair 5, whoa, that makes her a survivor!
