Paige, 4 years old, second time skiing. Magic carpet, major splits (she thinks those should be done by ‘older’ people, like 16 or so), EdgieWedgie and it all started to come together, power wedge even a 16 year old would be proud of … skied down Trygvies twice with no help, interesting style – point them straight down until the instructor starts to squirm then throw out the colossal wedge, that was fun to watch. Come back next year Paige and we’ll get rid of the EdgieWedgie.

Danny, Shana, Mike, Daniel, Isabel – Florida and the Caribbean – level 1. This was quite the experience, talk about starting from ground zero … don’t think Daniel and Isabel (and maybe Danny) had seen snow before. Stayed on the magic carpet, everyone riding up and sliding down … Isabel off to children’s ski school tomorrow. Fun meeting all of you, for the chaos of all the gear and putting the piece together for a ski day – I was amazed there were no major issues – it was all fun. Enjoy tomorrow. Mike – blue side up – but that Navajo will do a loop, just give yourself a little room at the bottom.

Elaine (Lanie) – Chicago. Working on getting rid of the wedge, matching earlier, ability to skid with skis parallel, twisting and rotating feet, more pressure on the inside ski (not 50-50, but more), patience, completing the turn to control speed, flatter skis to allow shaping and more friction, ankle flexion for balance. Good day Lanie, you are now an entry level 5 skier – good job!

Sam, Sarah, Lena, Evan – Guilford, CT. Some serious skiing today: Windows 1.5, Inferno, Mustang, Elan, Whale’s Tail, Vertigo, Deb’s Alley, Meadows, Centennial, The Burn, Brill’s Thrill, Rustler, Mule. The ‘food for thought’ thoughts: hang onto the counter, not squaring up, hip alignment for pressure management, upper body discipline with hands and poles, early edge change and pressure, less rise to release, bump technique and tactics. What a great day of exploring … and actually some sun in the afternoon. Thanks for the beer Sam/Sarah – tell the kids they have become ‘real’ skiers.

Melisa & Nate – Vermont. A good day this was, warm, overcast, mountain skiing well. Some drills (hop turns, side slips, 10 turn challenge) and some just ski on Peaks, 8,9,10. Video analysis of personal skiing and PSIA downloads … fun lunch talking about this and that. Thank you for the beer and deck time …. see you next year, lots still to be explored in Breckenridge.
