Level 8, Chandra, Phoenix. What a fun day, one on one with the whole mountain to ourselves (cold and blowing, windchill around -15 or so. Stuff we touched: turn initiation, inside ski pressure, tip to turn, early edge engagement to shape complete turn, patience at initiation and completion, upper body alignment, tons of bumps in Contest Bowl, Russler, Crescendo and Dukes, side slips, feather the edges to adjust bump line. Lots of fun and laughs!

Lots of snow, high winds on Tbar, some cold feet (aka, mine), snow delightful. High level 7/low leve 8: Sonya, Keith, Kai, Glynna. Trees, off piste, Devil’s Crotch, almost fence hopping, a few rocks I suppose, early edge transition, more aggressive with loading up forward portion of ski at initiation, staying forward with hands and shin pressure, keep hips aligned more down the mountain to allow femurs to steer through turn completion. What a fun day with all the new snow!

Level 7: Carla, Judy, Donna, Joelle, Elsa, Becky, Kia, Don, Julie. Second day in a row think part of the class was ready to lench me … am I living on borrowed time … oh well, worse ways to meet one’s demise I suppose. Ore Bucket was all Becky’s idea (but I did buy into it as a fun adventure). So Carla, totally
Becy’s fault … but it was not a lost cause. Got to see some steep terrain, with mogals, and trees, and rocks, and stumps, and unpacked snow …. my gosh, how good does it get!

The Babes! Pam, Carla, Judy, Barbara, Donna, Joelle, Nancy, Elsa, Becky – glorious warm windless day. Pole touch was the prime focus – this is a start! Thought there might be mutiny after the Tbar ride and looking over the lip of Pica … then 1/4 way down was convinced mutiny was imminent … but against all odds the ship remained afloat. The afternoon on Peak 10 a treat. Good job ladies – more and more you are ‘taking it down the mountain’.

Almost one week into February, where does the time go. A good day for sure, level 6: Cynthia, Alan and Katrina (her name is a fit, hurricane personality). Initiate the turn with tipping the new inside ski (guys, this is so important can not overemphasis), pole balance, start on greens finish on blacks, come off that hard edge and let some skidding and shapping heip you complete each turn, pole plants (what a novel concept), side slips, ‘how many turns’ now this one was a hoot. Most enjoyable day, hoped you learned something about skiing and a little about life.

Now this was a group of level 8s that had the motor running and ready to explore: Joe, Laurel, Chong, Bob, Dianne, Peter and Rebecca, Deb and Mitzi. Started at Y chute and worked our way across the face of Peak 8 with two runs up the Imperial and Whales Tale – some hiking, steep stuff, a bit of technique quite a few laughs. A most enjoyable morning.

Sunny, not too windy, warm … and crowded to the hilt … Tbar line out of control. Level 8: Greg,
Nicole, Tom, Keith, Sonia, Nancy, Danielle, Michael – upper body alignment, early edge change, femur rotation that creates tipping and steering, pressuring the forward portion of ski after transition in the bumps, maintaining ski/snow contact in moguls, more shape to turns in moguls/not so quick to pivot and skid, tree skiing, Debbs Alley as last run, enjoying the peace as the sun set beyond Peak 8. Thank you for a most enjoyable day!
